Bio

Singer/Songwriter/Multi-Instrumentalist Cat Canyon is a performer with a unique style, blending his rust belt Detroit, Michigan, upbringing and his big city adventures.

From early childhood, Cat challenged musical boundaries by combining his love of multiple genres of music in his songwriting, performances and recordings.  For both originals and covers, he embraces new ways of capturing the essence of the music.

With years of delighting audiences, Cat is a favorite at wineries, brewpubs, festivals, weddings and other venues, ranging from the very intimate to the very large.

His heartfelt voice can soar majestically, then throttle down to a raspy growl.   He can melt into a sweet ballad, then rock out, while fervently playing guitar, drums, harmonica, or a multitude of other instruments.

Cat has released four original projects, ranging from the eclectic to the mainstream.  His most recent endeavor, Giving Up The Ghost, has a pop/rock/blues/folk flair, which reflects his chosen direction.  Songs from Giving Up The Ghost have been heard frequently on WLEN 103.9 for three years.  Dale Gaertner, on-air personality at WLEN, commented: "Giving Up The Ghost is a wonderful collection of songs by Cat Canyon that range from the very upbeat and uplifting to some great ballads. . .and all done by him!  From the writing to the instrumentation this man does it all and quite exceptionally".

Cat also performs an impressive variety of cover tunes including rock, pop, folk, country, standard, funk, rap, etc. .  At his performance for Top of the Park Summer Festival in Ann Arbor, Michigan, his rendition of "Hallelujah" garnered a standing ovation.  Linda Yohn from WEMU 89.1 declared: ". . .you were a highlight of my Top of the Park experience."  And Kelly Brown from WQKI 107.1 remarked: ". . .a troubadour and great talent with lots of energy.  You deserve that and more."
